Week 14: Making a Vase by Hand Casting

The inspiration for this week’s date came from a creative group on Facebook. I had seen the post pass for over a year ago, but I never did anything with it. An ideal date!

The date took some preparation as I had to research what I needed and then buy the necessary supplies. It came as a DIY kit for casting the intertwined hands of a couple. As I wanted to cast my own right hand holding a vase instead, it took some thinking.

The process of making the mold and the casting was pretty straightforward. I only needed half an hour for it. Then it needed drying. After 4 hours, the mold could be peeled off, and after 3 days the statue was ready for painting.

I like the result!

As the actual process of making it only took 30 minutes, I didn’t really got immersed in the activity. It was the peeling off to uncover the final result and the painting that gave me the most pleasure.

Up until now I am really enjoying my dates, especially the variety in them.
