Week 4: Making a Pancake Plant from Glass

Glass had already fascinated me for a long time, and I had been following Gregory Moulin, the glass artist, for some time. Embarking on the journey of the Artist’s Way, it felt like the right time to book a glass workshop and I was really looking forward to it.

I wasn’t disappointed. There was plenty of variety in what we had to do to get to the end result (photo above): we had to cut the glass, grind it, and then solder it to make the pieces look like leaves. In total, it took us a little over 4 hours to make a pancake plant from scratch.

Like I had in previous weeks, I often checked in with how I felt in the moment. I can strongly advise doing this, as every time I checked in, I was brought back again to the present moment. It was always a new opportunity to become engaged in what I was doing.

Gregory has workshops for other objects. I’ll keep on following him, as one never knows when I’ll run out of artist dates ideas.
